Quick and Easy Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

Shepherd’s Pie is a traditional English recipe. Since I was American and my husband was British, I tried to change this wonderful recipe for the American palate. I hope you enjoy it because we do.

Ingredients
2 lb. ground chuck
1 large onion, diced
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. salt
Black pepper to taste
1 8 oz. pack mushrooms, cleaned and cut
2 C. frozen peas
2 packs brown gravy mix
1 C. water
1 8 oz. pkg. shredded cheddar cheese
8 nice size potatoes
1/4 C. milk
1/4 C. butter
Directions
Peel and cut potatoes to make mashed potatoes. After boiled, mash potatoes. Add milk and butter, then set aside.While potatoes are boiling, brown ground beef, onions, salt, garlic powder and pepper until nicely browned. Drain off excess fat. Add peas and mushrooms, 1 C. water and brown gravy mix. Let this come to a boil and let gravy thicken. Place meat mixture into glass casserole dish. Top with mashed potatoes to cover completely.Place in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. 5 minutes before it is done, sprinkle with cheese over the top and cook 5 minutes more. Let stand 10 minutes, then serve.
